Science finds God

In the name of Allah, the most Merciful and the Most Beneficent

Who created the universe?

And He directed (His Knowledge, Will, Power, and Favor) to the heaven when it was as a cloud (of gases), and ordered it and the earth, “Come both of you, willingly or unwillingly!” They said: “We have come in willing obedience.” (Holy Quran 41:11)

Scientists observing the formation of galaxies from the light originating billions of years ago using power telescopes (like the Webb telescope) have found that indeed stars and planets are formed from cosmic clouds. This has been referred to in the Holy Quran which was revealed by God Almighty 1400 years ago. Various forces exist in the universe which interacts with precise strength and enable the world to function smoothly. For instance, there is a delicate balance between the nuclear forces which exist in the nucleus of an atom and the electromagnetic force between the electrons and the protons. The protons are positively charged and hence should repel each other, but they are kept together in the nucleus because of this nuclear force. Further, this nuclear force though extremely strong exerts its force once for a very short distance, else the neutrons and protons from the neighboring atoms will also clump together and everything in our world, such as the planets and stars would have clumped together into a small single object. And the electromagnetic force lets the negatively charged electrons rotate around the protons giving rise to the structure of atoms which are the building blocks of the entire Universe. This delicate and perfect balance between the forces is proof of a Master Planner and Designer Who has All Knowledge and All Power – whom we call God Almighty or Allah. He says ‘and He has raised up the heaven and has set a balance^’ (Holy Quran 55:8)

The observable universe has 100+ billion galaxies in which our Milky Way galaxy is one of them. And our galaxy is estimated to have around 400 billion stars and the Sun is one of these stars. And each of these stars and galaxies is not at rest but is moving at great speeds. The Sun is moving at around 560,000+ miles per hour. But still, we do not see any accidents in the skies with stars colliding with each other, but rather a beautiful night sky with wonderful patterns of star constellations.

Is this a random game of chance?

Trillions of massive objects rotating and revolving with precise orbits without a crash!  There must be a Master Planner and Designer who knows all science, physics, and mathematics; who knows all past, present, and future, and who is available 24×7 to fix any issues anywhere in the universe.

‘Undoubtedly, Allah holds back the heavens and the earth from leaving their existing state, and if they were to leave, there is none who can hold them back, except Him. Surely, He is Forbearing, Most-Forgiving’ (Holy Quran 35:41)

Allah has put all these stars, planets, and moons in their precise orbits. The Sun is ~400 times farther from the earth than the Moon. But the Sun is also ~400 times larger in size than the Moon and this makes the Sun and Moon appear the same size in the sky for us and when a total eclipse happens the Moon is able to cover the Sun completely. With Sun and Moon in precise orbits, you can calculate precise dates of past and future lunar and solar eclipses.  Further, the earth is placed at the correct distance from the Sun so that it is neither too hot such as on planets like Venus where the temperature is 464 degrees Celsius while a further away planet like Saturn has a surface temperate of minus 176 degrees Celsius. Further, on planets like Uranus which does not have mountains like our Earth has, there are no barriers to slow down the winds and they have winds with speeds reaching 560+ miles per hour! Our merciful Creator has made the Earth a comfortable and habitable place for us to live. “He created the heavens without pillars as you see them, and put mountains upon the Earth lest it might convulse with you, and He spread it with animals of all kinds; and We sent down water from the clouds, then caused to grow therein (vegetation) of every noble kind.” [Holy Quran 31:10]

The Moon has been placed by God in its orbit such that the time it takes to go around the Earth once is exactly the same time it takes to rotate on its own axis and this amazing synchronization ensures that we always see the same side of the moon (the other side of Moon called its far side has more craters and not as beautiful as the side of the moon we see). Further, if the Moon were to be placed closer to the Earth, it would cause stronger tidal waves in the oceans and would cause the Earth to be flooded, and if the Moon was farther away then it would make the tidal waves weaker and which would impact the marine life. The waves are essential to carrying and distributing the nutrients in the oceans. Further scientists say that these ocean waves/currents act as conveyer belts transporting warm water from near the equator to the north & south poles and cold water from the poles towards the equator. This prevents the lands near the equator from becoming even more hotter and unbearable to live in.

God Almighty has surrounded the earth with a protective Ozone layer that protects us from harmful Ultraviolet (UV) radiations. These radiations are known to cause cancer in humans, damage to DNA in plants, and impacts photosynthesis which is the process by which the plants make food and grow. Allah says ‘He is the One who has made the earth a bed for you and the sky a roof and sent down water from the sky, then brought forth with it fruits as a provision for you. So do not set up parallels to Allah when you know’ [Holy Quran 2:22]. As a home’s roof protects us from wind, snow, and rain, the sky and atmosphere with its Ozone layer provide a protective covering for all life on the planet. With the heat from the Sun, Allah (God Almighty) causes the water to vaporize, and God sends the winds to gather them together as clouds and provides us with rainfall. If not for this water cycle, we will be just left with salty water in the Oceans.

Further, through the rotation of the Earth, our merciful Creator brings about the alternation of day and night. It is not possible that due to some random game of chance, these amazing patterns of day and night and seasons through the year can happen.

Say, “Tell me, if Allah were to impose the night over you, continuing forever up to the Day of Judgment, which god, other than Allah, would bring to you light? Then, do you not listen?” Say, “Tell me, if Allah were to impose the day over you, continuing forever up to the Day of Judgment, which god, other than Allah, would bring to you night in which you may have rest? Then, do you not see?” [Holy Quran 28:71-72]

Is this a random game of chance?

Every day, several hundred thousand babies come to this world.  Every growing- up baby will have a new unique face, new unique voice, and new unique finger-prints!

Study any organic or inorganic system in the universe – stars, planets, mountains, lakes, oceans, clouds, beautiful rainbows in skies: study thousands of species of animals, birds, plants, and fish; study flowers or the patterns on the back of a leaf! Every system is perfect, by-design, and cannot be a random game of chance.

Even if all of humanity come together, they cannot create a grain of sand or even a tiny atom from nothing. Rather, we have been given the ability by God Almighty to use the things He has created and build the homes, cars, utensils, and other things we need for life. Allah has created this amazing Universe, set up a perfect balance, and provided all the necessities (air, water, food) needed to survive on this planet. We have been endowed with eyesight, hearing, and intelligence so that we might reflect on these blessings and how indebted we are to our Creator and seek a path towards loving Him and pleasing Him. God Almighty says:

‘Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding. (They are those) Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], “Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.’ [Holy Quran 3:190-191]

Do those who are disbelievers not see that the heavens and the earth were sewn together and then We unstitched them and that We made from water every living thing? So, will they not have faith? (Holy Quran 21: 30)
